the characters Rashid and Mo are both muslims living in the United Kingdom with there parents. Mo is a 16 year old boy just out of high school getting excellent grades in some of his subjects while his older brother is a school drop out or he left school with no GCSE's and has instead turned to gang crime as this allows him to get on of mallows hirachry of needs of having a place of belonging he fulfils this but while Rashid is this person who wants the best for his family and his life but without the gcse's he can't even get a job later on which is a even worse state since he hasn't had work experience or a job in his life. so here is a small message of that you need everything you can to achieve what you want later in life.later on in the film it is reviled that Rashid is gay which is strictly against his families and his religion and after his brother mo finds out he is gay he tells everyone he is a terrorist to save himself from everyone constantly heckling and abuse from his peers he would get. putting the religion aside for one moment this is the world we live in gay people are constantly met with hate and abuse from people they might not even know just for being who they are but what is worse later on the film this is what puts Rashid in danger as he try's to kill him as almost religions see being gay is a sin or crime worse than murder.
even though we believe to live in a society with no gangs that is simple not the case dose not matter who you are or where your from if you mess with someone or you hurt someone in a gang the whole gang will be coming after you at least thats what it is in this film with an eye for an eye mentality so when one of there members dies they then go to kill the murder and doing this while avoiding the police using signals and everyone helping everyone saying when there are police around.
